The French General Jean-Baptist Bernadotte (1763 - 1844) was the Swedish commander-in-chief of the allied northern army against Napoléon and King of Sweden from 1818-1844 as Charles XIV John. He is the founder of the Swedish Royal House of Bernadotte.
Gustaf Folcker worked together with other goldsmiths for the Swedish Court. During the reign of Carl XIV Johann, no extensive orders were placed, only a few gilded silver pieces with his monogram were made. Various pieces by Folcker are known, including two bowls and sugar bowl with the monogram of Carl XIV Johann from around 1816/18.
